When I first started as a UB student, I had no idea that I would graduate as a Psychology major. Sitting in my first psychology course freshman year, all I knew at that point was that I wanted to stay. From joining the a research lab and writing my Psychology Honors thesis, to becoming a member and later the President of our Psi Chi chapter, the opportunities that I had—and that all students have—in the UB Psychology major are endless. I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my degree at many times in my college career, but the courses, extracurricular activities, and support that I was offered allowed me to explore all of my interests and discover where psychology could take me. Now, working as a project manager at an IT company, I can say that I would have never gotten here without my UB Psychology degree and that it was the best decision I ever made. I learned to conduct research, write, and present at a level that I know will get me far in my career. My advice for students thinking of majoring in Psychology at UB is to take the leap, and if you’re still on the fence, there are plenty of UB psych students, alumni, staff, and faculty who are willing to talk through it with you.
