Psi Chi: The International Honor Society

Psi Chi (pronounced “sigh - kai”) is the International Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 with two primary purposes:

  1. To encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship
  2. To advance the science of psychology

Membership

  • Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring or minoring in psychology and meet the membership criteria
  • Membership in Psi Chi is an earned lifetime honor. Your membership is preserved at the Psi Chi International Office and can be included on graduate school and employment applications. 
  • Psi Chi inductees are presented with a membership certificate suitable for framing. You are also eligible to wear Psi Chi emblems including key pins, charms, label pins, etc. 
  • Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS)
  • Psi Chi sponsors programs at regional and national psychological association meetings
  • Psi Chi members gain a sense of community with others in psychology and an identification with the discipline
  • Please note: Psi Chi requires a one-time registration fee of $65.00.

2024-25 UB Chapter Leadership

Membership Criteria

If you are a Psychology Major:

  1. You must have a current status as a Psychology Major
  2. You must have completed the following psychology courses:
    • Introductory Psychology (PSY 101)
    • Psychological Statistics (PSY 207)
    • Scientific Inquiry (PSY 350)
  3. You must have a psychology GPA of 3.4 or better and a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or better

If you are a Psychology Minor:

  1. You must have a current status as a Psychology Minor
  2. You must have completed 9 credits of the Psychology Minor
  3. You must have a psychology GPA of 3.4 or better and a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or better

Application and Deadlines

To be considered for membership in Psi Chi, students must complete all steps on the application by the specified deadlines. UB’s Psi Chi chapter inducts members twice yearly, with application deadlines in the Fall and Spring.
