Bio: Jeffery C. White is a PhD student and Graduate Teaching Assistant in Sociology at the University at Buffalo. His research examines the intersections of race, education, and inequality, with a particular focus on how the historical exclusion of Black men from influential networks has shaped their underrepresentation in teaching and leadership roles. In addition to this work, he is currently conducting research on mass incarceration and prison reentry, as well as developing a new sociological theory that seeks to explain the intergenerational effects of systemic oppression on Black youth. Drawing on social capital theory and historical analysis, his projects investigate how structural barriers and discriminatory policies influence access to mentorship, professional advancement, and institutional power. Broadly, his interests include punishment and social control, urban inequality, and the sociology of race and class. At UB, Jeffery is committed to producing scholarship that bridges theory, history, and policy, while also mentoring students and contributing to community-engaged approaches that advance racial equity.
