Danica (Dani) Schofer (they/she/he) is excited to be alive and thrilled to be joining UB as a first year MFA candidate and TA in Fall 2022! Danica graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Muhlenberg College with a BA in dance (performance and education) and music (performance and composition). Danica’s initial interdisciplinary research explored the translatability of dance/music practices through somatic exercises. Danica’s research in Somatic Musicality through the lens of Dalcroze Eurhythmics (an embodied music education practice) was presented at the DSA (Dalcroze Society of America) National Virtual Conference in January 2022. An in-person workshop at DSA will occur in January 2023. Since studying Dalcroze, Danica’s primary interest has expanded to integrate their experiences as a trauma survivor to cultivate authentic relationships, community building, and (most importantly *JOY*!) in collective spaces. Danica’s interdisciplinary choreo/comp has been presented at the DSA and multiple Muhlenberg Performances including their Senior Recital ’22, Reset: New Dances ’21, Fish Bowl Play Festival ’21, and Danceworks ’18, ’19, 20 and multiple independent performances. At Muhlenberg, Danica performed in dance performances including Dance Gallery ’18, ’19, ’20, Danceworks ’18, ’19, 20, En Route ’21, and Digital Dopamine ’22. A passionate music improviser, Danica has also played with Muhlenberg’s jazz ensembles and performed independently. Danica has worked as a TA and tutor of (dance/music) at Muhlenberg College and served as an instructor of dance, music, and ESL with Bates Dance Festival, Muhlenberg Community Dance Center, Steppin’ Out Academy of Dance, School of Rock West Hartford, Qkids, and Protostar English. Outside of dance, Danica loves comedy, plants/nature, exploring new places, poetry, learning all things, and basically anything silly! She is so excited to connect with members of UB and the greater Buffalo community! Say hello anytime!
