DIRECTOR'S NOTE

As a director, I am often drawn to ensemble-based work. Stories that explore the dynamics of a group – the alliances, the betrayals, the heartache, the joy of connection. Sarah DeLappe’s play offers us a visceral snapshot of this team of young women grappling with coming of age, global and historical atrocities, and deep loss. Along with joyous giggles and biting teenage humor, it asks: Where do we experience a sense of belonging? How are we buoyed by our community? By the physicality and ferocity of sport? And where do we get to be wild?

KUHLE MBAWU (Assistant Director) is a third-year Ph.D. student in Theatre and Performance at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. She analyzes how the experiences of girls who explore different gender identities, relationships, and sexuality are often wrongly framed as deviant and in need of control.
