The study of geology challenges students to think both spatially and creatively. In the Department of Geology, our undergraduates grow into inquisitive problem solvers who are passionate about the earth and addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change, resource management and natural disasters.

Experiential Learning

Our department’s experiential learning opportunities provide students with the chance to deepen their understanding of the world beyond the classroom.

  • Develop research projects while working closely with department faculty
  • Hone your skills in an internship at a local company or national organization
  • Explore the natural wonders of the western United States while developing real-world observational and mapping skills at our Geology Field Camp

Career-Focused

An understanding of the earth and environmental issues has never been more vitally important. With the proliferation of challenges in energy, natural resources and environmental health, excellent job opportunities are predicted for geoscientists. An education in geology can also be an asset in such fields as environmental law, politics or education.
