Potential Employers

The Department of Biological Sciences invites organizations to partner with us by hosting undergraduate interns through the Experiential Learning Fellowship Program. This program connects academic learning with real-world practice while helping organizations engage with emerging talent.

Each intern is fully funded by the department and completes a paid, semester-long internship under the guidance of a professional supervisor at your organization.

Why host a Biological Sciences intern

By hosting an intern, your organization can:

  • Gain support on meaningful projects
  • Mentor motivated undergraduate students
  • Build connections with UB and the local talent pipeline
  • Contribute to hands-on science education

Seven fellowship internships are available each academic year, made possible through donor support connected to the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science.

Internship site requirements

Internship sites must provide a structured, supervised learning experience in a biology-related professional setting outside the university.

Approved sites support students as they:

  • Apply biology coursework in non-academic environments
  • Develop technical and professional skills
  • Strengthen problem-solving and scientific communication
  • Gain experience aligned with academic or career interests
  • Clarify short-term and long-term goals
Important deadlines for internship sites
  • Fall internships: Sites considered until June 15
  • Spring internships: Sites considered until November 15
