Beyond the Classroom

The University at Buffalo encourages every student to seek learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether by partnering with a faculty member on a research project, interning with a local or national organization, making an impact in the Buffalo community, or taking your education overseas, the initiative to go above and beyond will open doors to a multitude of worthwhile experiences.

Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (SAACS) is an undergraduate organization for students of chemistry and related fields. Monthly meetings and gatherings include informal research presentations by faculty, outreach activities, fundraising efforts, and other professional and social activities.

Today's students recognize the value and benefits of meaningful international experience as part of their UB education. Study Abroad at UB offers a world of opportunities (literally!) for learning and personal development.

Internships are one of the most direct ways for students to explore future employment opportunities. Get resume experience while making connections and discovering a career that you love. See available internship possibilities through UB's Career Services Office.

Start a project to build skills and gain real-world experience for your career. The Experiential Learning Network's Project Portal is the easiest place to get started!

UB promotes many forms of service-learning. From alternative break sessions to teaching in the Buffalo Public Schools to "Saturdays of Service," these unique community-oriented activities help others while building essential communication and leadership skills.

The Experiential Learning Center is a resource specifically for students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Ask for guidance from staff experts or simply use the space to research opportunities and funding sources.
