About the micro-credential

This micro-credential helps you apply your learning in real-world settings—from international commerce and law to social services, refugee support and nonprofit work. You’ll graduate with the tools to think critically about complex global challenges and the confidence to engage with them.

Micro-credential requirements

  • Eligibility: Open to all majors and UB students with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • Credit Hours: 8–10 total
  • Average Time to Completion: Three semesters

Required courses

To earn the micro-credential, UB students must successfully complete:

  • HIS 205: History of the Middle East
  • Two additional approved courses from History, Art History, Asian Studies, Political Science or Global Gender Studies

Final project

  • A three-page Research Guide focused on an aspect of Middle Eastern intellectual tradition such as art, literature, history, politics, environment or peoples 
  • A UB Research Poster presentation (optional)
