This annual, four-week summer residency program hosted by the NHC each June is intended to assist faculty in jump-starting or making substantial progress on a current research project. It permits scholars to experience a concentrated period of supported research and intellectual exchange at the Center located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (near Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh), a setting customized for and highly conducive to humanities research and writing.
Application deadline: February 1, 2025 (11:59 P.M.)
National Humanities Center summer residents are provided individual studies in the NHC's quiet, light-filled, glass building in the woods of Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. They have access to their studies 24/7 during the summer residency program. NHC's renowned library staff assists residents in procuring all books needed for their research by the time they arrive, as well as any requests during their time in residence.
Residents are housed in a hotel located near the Center and provided with continental breakfast and a full lunch from an in-house chef and baker during regular business hours. Lunch in the Commons is famous for the vibrant exchange of ideas and synergistic discussions that inevitably lead to enhanced scholarly output.
The UB Humanities Institute (HI), through the support of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPRED), is pleased to be an NHC Institutional Sponsor, making our faculty eligible to participate in the Summer Residency Program.
HI is soliciting applications from tenure-stream faculty for the National Humanities Center (NHC) 2025 Summer Residency Program (June 2-27) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (near Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh).
