BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo’s Center of Excellence in Materials Informatics will host a lecture series event on Feb. 27 to introduce Buffalo Niagara’s new advanced manufacturing institute — an essential component of the Buffalo Billion initiative that builds on Western New York’s strengths to create jobs and invest in a sustainable future for the region.

The institute will be a state-of-the-art facility to support the growth of Western New York's manufacturing sector and foster economic development opportunities.

On Feb. 27, leadership from the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council (REDC), Empire State Development (ESD), University at Buffalo and EWI, a nonprofit engineering services research and development company, will unveil details regarding the institute's technology focus areas; collaboration with UB and industry; as well as how regional organizations can benefit.

The lecture takes place from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, at UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, 701 Ellicott St., Buffalo.

The event will expand upon Gov. Andrew Cuomo's recent announcement of the institute, which said the governor realizes that if the region is to reach its potential, the manufacturing sector must be expanded.
