Cheryl Strayed to speak at UB Wednesday as part of Distinguished Speakers Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Cheryl Strayed, author of the New York Times bestseller, “Wild,” will speak at the University at Buffalo at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 in Alumni Arena, UB North Campus, as part of the Distinguished Speakers Series.

At 22, Strayed found herself shattered by her mother’s death and the end of a young marriage. She confronted her pain by embarking on an inspirational life-changing solo trek along than 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail.  “Wild” has been produced as a film by Reese Witherspoon, who stars in the adaptation. It will open in theaters Dec. 5.

Strayed also is the author of the New York Times bestseller “Tiny Beautiful Things” and the critically acclaimed novel “Torch.” Her writing has appeared in many major publications including the Times and her books have been translated into 26 languages

During the program, audio and/or video photography, as well as still photography, will be limited to the first five minutes of the lecture.
