Eleven students initiated into Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Honor Society for Spanish

On Friday afternoon, May 7, 2021, initiation was conducted via Zoom for eleven students whose academic achievement and commitment to Spanish qualified them to join Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Honor Society for Spanish.

21-22 Sigma Delta Pi Officers.

2021/22 Officers Kaelyn Zebraski (Vice President), Mara Dingman (President), and Stephanie Padilla (Secretary/Treasurer).

 

Elizabeth Scarlett officiated, and three new student officers volunteered to lead the chapter for the next academic year: Mara Dingman (President), Kaelyn Zebraski (Vice President), and Stephanie Padilla (Secretary/Treasurer). University at Buffalo has had a chapter of Sigma Delta Pi for over fifty years. Nationally, there are more than 600 chapters. The organization was founded by Ruth Barnes and her friends at UC Berkeley in 1919. The ideals of the group include fostering understanding between people of English speech and people of Spanish speech.

New members of the UB chapter are: Jay Carreira, Zoe Louise Cohen, Mara T. Dingman, Matthew C. Niemiec, Diana Olivares-Salazar, Stephanie Padilla, Liam Patrick Kelly, Vanessa Rodriguez, Leah Marie Santalis, Isabel Yu, and Kaelyn Olivia Zebraski.
