RLL announces Fall 2021 Haitian Kreyol courses

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures is offering beginning and intermediate levels of online asynchronous Kreyol language instruction to accommodate students' scholastic and/or work schedules.  Periodic individual or group meetings (by appointment) with the instructor are required.

FR 483/FR 525 KRE1 Introductory
Take for undergraduate or graduate credit

This is an introductory course designed for students who have had no prior instruction in Haitian Kreyol. You will develop skills in reading, speaking, listening and writing. Emphasis is placed on listening, comprehension, pronunciation, basic vocabulary, and grammar structures necessary for developing oral proficiency skills. Classroom work is extended and enhanced by homework and other activities.

This course is designed for students who have had some prior instruction in Haitian Kreyol. You will further develop your skills in reading, speaking, listening and writing. Continued emphasis is placed on listening, comprehension, pronunciation, intermediate vocabulary, and grammar structures necessary for perfecting oral proficiency skills and practice the language skills required to take/pass the New York State BEA (Bilingual Education Assessment Haitian Creole) test. Continuation of Intro to Kreyol, with further readings in Haitian literature. Prerequisite: Intro to Kreyol or permission of instructor.
