The Zodiaque Dance Company Celebration 50 Spring Program runs from Feb. 27 –March 2, 2025 at UB Center for the Arts. Learn more about the show and ZDC’s mission and history in a new interview and podcast with co-directors Kerry Ring and Michael Deeb Weaver on Buffalo Rising.

“The company operates as a yearlong course at UB, led by Kerry Ring, with Michael Deeb-Wever co-directing the concert programs presented each spring and fall. Ring shared that the diversity of the concert programming is part of the fundamental core of Zodiaque.

“‘The whole push from the original director, Linda Swiniuch, was to have a place where various styles of dance could be honored and showcased as a way to not only challenge and allow the dancers to grow their individual artistry but also to showcase a range of dances for the audience…This concept of versatility is embodied in Zodiaque. Linda talked about the celestial bodies and this whole idea of an array of styles so that it didn’t become one thing. And that’s something that we still really strive to uphold,’ Ring said.

“Michael Deeb Weaver echoes Ring’s sentiments, ‘Linda was really ahead of her time as an artist, as a woman in higher education. And really fought for that versatility in a time when ballet dance and modern dance were held up on a pedestal as the only forms of dance that could be of value in higher education. Linda was a proponent of the versatility of the experimental work of jazz dance, tap dance, musical theater, and more non-traditional work. She was a trailblazer and ahead of her time.’”
