2023 was a busy year for UB Theatre and Dance faculty in publishing research in academic journals and books, as well as creating performance work across many stages-local, regional and national. Guest Director/Choreographer Eric Deeb Weaver will direct 9 to 5 The Musical for THD in spring 2024. The show runs April 26 - May 5, 2024 in the UB Center for the Arts Drama Theatre.
UB Theatre and Dance thrives in great part due to the contributions of professional guest artists and scholars. In 2024 we welcome two new guest directors, Scout Davis and Eric Deeb Weaver, to guide the creation of our spring productions of Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play and 9 to 5 The Musical, respectively.
Congratulations to Visiting Associate Professor of Dance Chanon Judson, who is in the middle of a 12-performance run at the Joyce Theater in New York City as part of Dancing with Glass: The Piano Etudes, celebrating the 85th birthday of composer Philip Glass.
Some classes are simply more fun than others, though in the post-graduate world of professional theatre, knowing how to do one’s own stage makeup is very important.
Clinical Assistant Professor of Dance Michael Deeb Weaver and several of his students are featured in a new article on UB Now about psychoneuromuscular theory, and the ways in which a strong mind/body connection helps dancers to learn and remember dance by imagining movement even when still.
THD Professors Lynne Koscielniak, Zechariah Saenz, and Kerry Ring have been working with Professor Jason Geistweidt in UB Digitial Media Studies Department (DMS) on danceSense, a collaboration process which will be included in the spring Zodiaque Dance Company concert.
Congratulations to THD Professor Emeritus Kazimierz Braun, who has received the London Literary Award for Lifetime Achievement, with a focus on writing, theatre and science, by the Polish Writers' Union in the Undergrowth.
Congratulations to Clinical Assistant Professor Jenna Zavrel. Her screendance Nina was accepted into the Dance Camera Istanbul International Film Festival, currently in progress. The six-day festival is in collaboration with Impro Dance Fest, also based in Istanbul, Turkey.
Join us for a great season of dance, musicals, and drama. The 2023-2024 season consists of 18 new productions, with live performances at UB Center for the Arts and the Katharine Cornell Theatre, both on UB North campus.

Koscielniak and Associate Professor Jonathan Shimon on the publication of their new book Bringing Set and Costume Designs to Fruition: Made by Teams, co-authored with Jennifer Dasher, Assistant Professor of Costume Design in the College of the Arts at The University of Florida.
