  • Department of History Inaugurates New Undergraduate Award

    This winter, the Department of History introduced Early Recognition Awards to honor undergraduate students for outstanding performances in a HIS 301 Seminar or a 400-level History seminar during the fall semester. These new awards recognize  exemplary commitment to historical writing and research, as demonstrated in a seminar paper. The first cohort of award winners includes Eoin Burns, Josephine Dunn, Julia Giacona, Daniel Hayden, Jack Phinney, Darcy Winter, and Layba Zamann. Our warm congratulations!
  • Wolcott Publishes Article in Washington Post

    Prof. Victoria Wolcott published an article, "The public has underestimated the radicalism of Martin Luther King Jr.’s early work" in the Washington Post on January 17, 2022 - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.

    Congratulations, UB history alum Dr. Averill Earls! Dr. Earls was awarded the Judith R. Walkowitz Prize for Best Article in Gender & Sexuality History from the North American Conference on British Studies!
  • Prof. Emberton Honored

    Professor Carole Emberton was honored on October 28, 2021 during the UB Celebration of Academic Excellence. Prof. Emberton received SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service. This award was established in 2004, to acknowledges faculty who have made sustained and wide-ranging service contributions to a broad array of university constituents. The award recipients have distinguished themselves through exceptional service to the university and to their communities, as well as to their disciplinary, professional and faculty governance organizations at the statewide, national and international levels.
  • Prof. Handley-Cousins Honored

    Prof. Sarah Handley-Cousins was honored at UB's annual Celebration of Faculty & Staff Excellence on Ocotber 28, 2021. Prof. Handley-Cousins was honored for winning a highly prestigious ACLS fellowship. Prof. Handley-Cousins was one of only 2 faculty in the university to be honored for winning a highly prestigious fellowship. Congratulations, Prof. Handley-Cousins!
  • Prof. Emberton Writes for Baldy Blog

    Associate Professor Carole Emberton, recently published a blog post in the Baldy Blog, "Monuments to the Enslaved" in which she discusses how to address Confederate monuments and instead focus on the experiences of enslaved people. 
  • Prof. Jack Larkin Remembered

    UB Department of History Emeritus Proffesor John "Jack" Larkin passed away on  June 29, 2021. He is mounred by family, friends, and colleuges. Prof. Larkin will be remembered for his huge impact on Phillipine and Southeast Asian History. The Association for Asian Studies published several remembrances and tributes to Prof. Larkin, including remberences from History PhD alum Prof. Paul A. Rodell.
