Eliseo Ortiz is a Mexican artist based in Denver, CO. He holds an MFA in Media Arts Production from SUNY University at Buffalo. Through a set of experimental installations, his MFA thesis work exposed the multiple gaps within the naturalization process to obtain U.S. citizenship: “N-400 Application for Naturalization.” His work, often presented as games, actions, performances, films, and installations, revolves around questions of national identity and the impact of political displacement and migration. His current work in the Emergent Technology and Media Arts Practices PhD. program looks at the influence of games in ongoing political and social conflict around the world. This research interrogates the principle of competition in games and seeks to understand how game spaces affect social relationships at large. His work has been showcased in venues like Currents New Media in Santa Fe and Mono no Aware in New York City. He has been supported by the Fulbright program and the National Fund for Culture and Arts of Mexico.
