The University at Buffalo’s Department of Music welcomes talented musicians to audition for our undergraduate programs (MusB and BA), performance minors, graduate programs (MM and DMA) and Advanced Certificate. Auditions are held throughout the academic year for both fall and spring semester enrollments.
Auditions are held during the first week of fall and spring semesters for students who want to:
Students who are still interested in taking lessons should reach out directly to the individual lesson instructor. Add/drop period ends September 2.
Auditions are offered later in the fall and spring semesters for prospective students like:

Follow these steps to begin your musical journey at UB:
Auditions are required for all of our performance programs (DMA, MM and certificate). Candidates may audition in person or submit a video audition if in-person attendance is not possible.

Prepare one solo work from each of the following:
Students auditioning for the DMA in Contemporary Performance must demonstrate proficiency in at least two significant works composed since 1950 as part of their audition. They will also need to complete a short interview conducted by the faculty.
