Media Advisory: Students to Get a 'Taste of Italy' at UB's First Guest Restaurant Night

Release Date: October 20, 2010

Dining hall food at the University at Buffalo will reach a new level on Wednesday, Oct. 20, as the renowned and local favorite Ilio DiPaolo's Restaurant serves UB students during Taste of Italy Night, the first installment in the university's Guest Restaurant program.

"Around the world, food and culture are major aspects of cultural heritage," says Jeff Brady, executive director for UB Campus Dining and Shops, which is organizing the event. "Our Guest Restaurant program is being tailored to provide our students authentic international cuisine while showcasing local restaurants that specialize in these dishes.

"Ilio DiPaolo's is a Western New York tradition when it comes to delicious Italian food," Brady says. "Our students will not only savor Ilio's creative dishes, but will get to experience the food as presented by members of the DiPaolo family."

Students in two of UB's dining halls will feast on DiPaolo's specialties. DiPaolo family members will serve some of the restaurant's most popular dishes, including pasta fagioli soup, eggplant Parmigiana, rigatoni, Italian-style green beans, locally baked Italian bread and the restaurant's mini cannoli for dessert. The special meals will be served from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in Red Jacket and 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Richmond, both located in the Ellicott Complex on UB's North Campus.

The first choice in UB's Guest restaurant night, DiPaolo's was chosen to highlight the area's diversity and local ties.

Media interested in talking to students, UB officials or members of the DiPaolo family -- and sampling the food -- are invited to attend one of the special dinners in the UB dining halls.
