Philadanco Dance Company to Perform Feb. 9 in Center for the Arts

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The UB Center for the Arts will continue the 2001-02 KeyBank Dance Series with a performance by Philadanco on Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts on UB's North (Amherst) Campus.

Hailed by critics as "exuberant" (The New York Times) and "a miracle of skill and energy" (Dance Magazine), Philadanco has established itself as one of America's foremost dance ensembles and is described as a company with unparalleled energy and superior technical ability.

Celebrating its 31st season, the company has thrilled audiences across America and throughout the world with adventurous choreography, bright new talent and dances treasured by aficionados everywhere. Philadanco Dance Company has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Louis Bellson Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, as well as with world-renowned pop celebrities.

In addition to a number of national television appearances, Philadanco has performed in New York's Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, Jacob's Pillow, the Joyce Theatre, the Kennedy Center and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, as well as throughout Europe and Asia. The company has collaborated with a long list of acclaimed choreographers including Milton Myers, Talley Beatty, Donald Byrd, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Blondell Cummings, David Brown, Elisa Monte and Ron K. Brown.

This tour of Philadanco is supported in part by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, the William Penn Foundation, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and The Pew Charitable Trusts; it is administered by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
