UB Law School to Co-Sponsor Free Legal Fair on Elder Health and Long-Term Care Planning

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo Law School will co-sponsor an Elder Law Fair from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16 in the Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road, Depew.

The fair will offer free seminars on legal issues pertaining to health and long-term care planning, and will be open to senior citizens, family members, caregivers, case managers and other professionals in the field of aging and long-term care.

The Hon. Vincent E. Doyle, district administrative judge, Eighth Judicial District, will give the keynote address.

Seminar topics will include "Payment Options for Long-Term Care," "Long-Term Care Insurance," "Substitute Decision Making," "Medicaid and Long-Term Care," "Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning," "They Didn't Tell Me I Could Lose My Home," "Medicare, Medicare HMOs and Privacy Insurance" and "Alternatives to Nursing Home Care."

Attorneys will be available throughout the morning to answer questions and assist in the completion of health-care proxy forms.

The fair is sponsored by the Erie County Department of Senior Services. Co-sponsors in addition to the UB Law School are the Network in Aging of Western New York, Inc., a non-profit voluntary corporation headquartered at UB for individuals and organizations involved in aging and long-term care; AARP New York; Legal Services for the Elderly, Disabled or Disadvantaged of Western New York, Inc.; New York State Bar Association, Elder Law Section; State of New York Unified Court System, Eighth Judicial District; The Bar Association of Erie County, and Southwest Airlines.
