BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo will offer a graduate level program in law and applied economics beginning with the Fall 2002 semester.

A collaborative effort between the UB Law School and the Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Sciences, the program reduces curricular overlap and will allow students to complete both a J.D. degree and a master of arts degree in economics in three to three and a half years, a shorter time period than if the degrees were pursued separately.

This collaborative program will emphasize complementary courses involving legal issues and analytical and computational tools in economics, and is designed for students who plan to pursue careers in legal cases involving commercial matters, regulation of utilities, patents, international trade, medical malpractice, wrongful death claims, interstate commerce regulations and violations of anti-trust laws.

Prospective students must submit separate applications and be admitted to both the UB Law School and the Department of Economics. Application to both may be simultaneous, or students admitted to one program may opt for the collaborative program after beginning their first year in either program.

For more information about the program, or to request an application, contact Christopher Connor in the Department of Economics at 716-645-2121 or by email at cconnor@acsu.buffalo.edu, or Shubha Ghosh in the Law School at 716-645-2749 or by email at sghosh2@buffalo.edu.
