Raab Named Director of OES at UB

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Joseph T. Raab has been named director of occupational and environmental safety services at the University at Buffalo.

Raab will oversee the university's Department of Occupational and Environmental Safety (OES), which develops safety and environmental compliance standards, policies and procedures for the university. The department functions as a consultant to unit heads, faculty and staff members and students in all areas of environmental compliance, safety and radiological health.

OES also makes routine, as well as special, health and risk appraisals or investigations, and assists departmental safety committees in the development of intra-departmental safety programs and participates in health-and-safety training and education projects.

In addition, it inspects campus operations and facilities to identify problems, provides code interpretations and consults with departments to assist in correcting problems.

A certified industrial hygienist, Rabb previously was manager of industrial hygiene at the University of California at Los Angeles. He also served as chair of the Industrial Hygienist Steering Committee for the University of California system.

A Western New York native, Raab holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Geneseo State College and a master's degree in industrial hygiene from the University of Michigan.

He lives in Williamsville.
