Graduate programs in the Department of Political Science have been designed to provide a thorough grounding in the intellectual and analytical traditions and practices of the discipline. With the opportunity to specialize or pursue a joint JD degree, students prepare to enter an increasingly-complex global political arena. We strive to create a demographically and ideologically diverse student body within our graduate program.

For more information on UB’s commitment to diversity please visit the Intercultural and Diversity Center, the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the Center for Diversity Innovation

Graduate Programs

The PhD prepares students for careers in education and research at the university level. Our graduates are professors, writers, advocates and leaders in their fields.

The MA serves diverse purposes related to intellectual development, preparing students for doctoral study or government, political and advocacy careers.

Along with the UB School of Law, the department offers a combined PhD/JD or MA/JD, a collaboration that also established the Baldy Center for Law & Social Policy.
