PhD in Cognitive Psychology, UB

Professor and Chair, Higher Education

“While at UB, I had an advisor who encouraged me to take classes outside of Psychology and to work on independent side-projects in the lab. Learning about the viewpoints from other disciplines helped me better understand the unique perspective that Psychologists have on the world, and taking courses in Psychology, Computer Science and Linguistics showed me that there are lots of different ways to look at the same problem. Working on independent side-projects helped me learn how to create a line of research that was interesting and productive instead of simply the next logical experiment.

In graduate school you need an advisor and a program that will support you and encourage you to take risks and discover new things about yourself and your discipline. For me, there was no better place than UB.” – Michael Vitevitch
