Department of Sociology and Criminology

Sojung Lim is a researcher who focuses on family demography in East Asia, work-family dynamics in the United States and Asian American studies, with an emphasis on demographic change in South Korea. Currently, she is examining the structural and cultural factors influencing family formation in South Korea. She is also working on a project that collects high-quality survey data on Korean Americans in the United States—an understudied and increasingly significant population.

Jamir Marino is quantum many body physicist specializing in the emergence of universal mechnisms in isolated and driven-open quantum systems. He explores various regimes of strongly correlated many-body dynamics relevant for open quantum systems in AMO (atomic, molecular and optical) condensed matter and quantum information.

Eric Sandvol

Empire Innovation Professor 
Department of Earth Sciences

Eric Sandvol is an earthquake seismologist who has conducted multiple seismic field deployments including in Myanmar, Thailand, Tibet, Turkiye and Caucasus. Sandvol studies mountain building and seismic wave propagation (attenuation, scattering and anisotropy) using both observational and computational modeling. He has intensively studied regional seismic wave attenuation in Tibet, the Middle East and mainland China.

Genie JH Yoo.

Department of History

Genie JH Yoo is a historian of island Southeast Asia, working at the intersection of history of science, medicine and Islam. Her current research explores the entwined history of European and Indigenous knowledge production about plants and materia medica in the spice islands of colonial Indonesia. She received her PhD in History from Princeton University.
