How will this scholarship impact your life?

“As a recipient of this prestigious award, I am honored and humbled. Winning this award will bring me one step closer to my goal of earning a Ph.D. in economics. Specifically, this award allows me to continue my research and support me through the expenses associated with graduate school. I am incredibly passionate about crafting public policy, specifically in the realm of healthcare, and finding ways to reshape insurance schemes for the benefit of everyone, something that would have a disproportionate benefit in upstate New York. As an undergraduate, I prioritize my academics and extracurriculars, maintaining a 3.9 GPA, conducting research, serving as a tutor in Economics and Mathematics, and as the student ambassador to the Department of Economics. I cannot thank the Kogut Brothers of New York Mills enough for supporting my academic ambition and showing me that I can achieve more than I previously thought possible.”

How will this scholarship impact your life?

“I am incredibly grateful to be selected for the Matthew Scarpati Endowed Scholarship. With this support, I am empowered to continue pursuing my goals and aspirations of earning a PhD in Economics. Additionally, I will be able to fully dedicate myself to my academic and personal development by spending more time studying, at office hours, and at every opportunity I can to grow. This additional time will not only deepen my understanding of economics but also allow me to engage more meaningfully with my professors and peers. Matthew Scarpati’s vision for making a positive contribution to the world serves as a profound inspiration to me. While our paths may differ, I am drawn to his legacy of impact through research and teaching. Initially uncertain of my direction upon entering UB, I discovered a passion for economics thanks to the transformative experiences in my classes and professors. Once again, I extend my gratitude to the Scarpati family for this invaluable opportunity. Your generosity not only supports my academic journey, but my goals to contribute positively to the field of economics. I am honored to be a recipient of the Matthew Scarpati Endowed Scholarship and will carry forward its legacy.”
