The College Fed Challenge is an academic competition designed to encourage students to learn about the Federal Reserve System, monetary policy, and the U.S. economy. In 2023, the team consisting of Sreeja Muppidi, Garrett Backus, Griffin Defino, and Mohammed Uddin and mentored by David Benjamin, had the opportunity to represent UB. Through analysis of economic and financial data, they formulated a monetary policy recommendation aligned with the Federal Reserve's dual mandate, aiming to ensure stable inflation and unemployment rates.
Later, at the FED Open House, the team had an opportunity to learn about how the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) operates and met the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the FED, Jerome Powell.
