Alumni Day 2020

The Department of Earth Sciences (formerly Geological Sciences) was pleased to host our third annual Geology Alumni Day on Friday, February 7, 2020.  That date coincided with our famous Groundhog Day BBQ, held in a freezing courtyard just outside Cooke Hall.

We were joined by several alumns, with more attending the department’s Winter Party on the following day at Pearl Street Grill.  The day featured a tour of our research labs, sessions where alumni graciously met with students to offer career/networking advice, an oral and a poster science session.  The oral session featured a talk by retiring Distinguished Professor Charles Mitchell, who gave a very interesting review of his career.  In all, a total of over 70 alumni, students, and faculty participated in all of the events.

Students at the Rock Trot in delaware park.

On Saturday, February 8, 2020, a Hoth-like morning in Delaware Park, 25 UB Geologists and friends ran and walked the 8th annual Rock Trot, hosted by Jedi Master Jason Briner and his Glacier History Padawans. We outran all AT-AT walkers and ice age mammals during the run, and enjoyed the winter party that evening.
