Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity and financial support can help make it possible. The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures offers several scholarships that help students pursue international learning experiences. Additional funding opportunities are also available through the UB Office of Education Abroad and national language honor societies

Eligibility

Eligibility varies by scholarship. Review the requirements for each award above to determine which opportunities are available to you.

Applicants must:

  • be currently enrolled UB undergraduate or graduate students
  • be in good academic standing
  • plan to participate in an accredited study abroad program
  • enroll full time in the program

Scholarship decisions may consider financial need, academic achievement and potential for personal and academic growth.

Applications for Winter and Spring 2027 study abroad scholarships are due October 2, 2026.

Additional funding opportunities

RLL scholarships are not your only option for funding study abroad. Explore additional opportunities through UB and the College of Arts and Sciences. Eligibility, deadlines and application requirements vary by program.

How to apply for RLL scholarships

Applications for RLL study abroad scholarships are accepted during the fall and spring semesters. Students planning to study abroad are encouraged to speak with an RLL faculty advisor before applying.

Your department advisors can help you confirm program eligibility, review your plans and answer questions about funding.

Prepare before you apply

Before starting the application form below, gather the following materials:

  • a writing sample in the target language from coursework
  • an unofficial transcript in PDF format
  • a current Academic Advisement Report (AAR) in PDF format
  • a 200-word statement explaining why you want to study abroad and what you hope to achieve
  • an estimated study abroad budget, including university costs, travel, housing, meals and other anticipated expenses

If you use online sources to estimate your study abroad expenses, save the URLs. You will be asked to include them with your budget.

Estimated completion time: 5 to 10 minutes once you have your materials ready.
