Study Abroad and Exchange Programs

Graduate Students with an active UB Teaching Assistantship are eligible for an exchange program (one academic year) with the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) or the University of Charles V (France).

Lausanne

Teaching at the Université de Lausanne (UNIL) offers a unique opportunity to perfect language skills, conduct research or perform fieldwork for a future dissertation grant. Teaching Assistants are warmly welcomed by the UNIL Department of English, and may participate in the Comparative Literature work-in-progress workshops.

Compensation
Teaching Assistants typically teach an introductory-level course, such as English Composition, for approximately 1.5 hours per week. Compensation for this service is 22,000 CHF (Swiss Francs) for the academic year. 

Depending on program needs and enrollments in the hosting department in Switzerland, there is the possibility of teaching a second course in the Spring semester for an additional 8,400 CHF.

Room and Board
Room and board is the responsibility of the Teaching Assistant. 

Paris

Lectrice d'anglais Ashley Byczkowski studies at the Bibliothèque Hôtel de Ville in Paris as part of her teaching internship program at the Université Paris Diderot-Paris 7 (Charles V), AY 2016-2017.

Teaching at the University of Charles V offers a unique opportunity to establish academic relationships with scholars in France, conduct dissertation research or do fieldwork in preparation for a future grant, and take advantage of all Parisienne resources. 

Compensation
Teaching Assistants typically teach English language and conversation sections. A total of 300 hours of yearly service are required, which translates to approx. 12 hours per week in the classroom. Compensation for this service is 17,835 Euros for the academic year. 

Room and Board
Room and board is the responsibility of the Teaching Assistant.
