All Theatre: Design and Technology interviewsare offered in-person at the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts (North Campus).

Consideration for the BFA Theatre Design and Technology degree program is by Interview/Appointment. To schedule an interview appointment outside of the above dates, contact Professor Catherine Norgren at: norgren@buffalo.edu.

Required Materials

Program Interviews for 2023-2024 are also available on a rolling basis.

  • Resume
  • Letter of Intent outlining your interest in Theatrical Design and Production, as well as your specific interest to the University at Buffalo
  • Portfolio (Hard copy or digital) with samples of work that may include but are not limited to:
    • Production photos
    • Documentation of pieces designed or built for production
    • Designs from other disciplines (fashion, architecture, etc.)
    • Samples of drafting
    • Drawing/painting skills
    • Fine artwork 
    • Photography
    • Paperwork used to manage a project
    • Anything you feel is relevant to the study of theatre, design, technology, stage management, and collaborative work
  • Letters of Recommendation
    • Two letters are required, preferably discussing your work in Design and Technology
  • Interview with Design and Technology faculty
