BFA in Theatre: Design/Technology Interview Registration

2026-2027 Interview Dates

Consideration for the BFA Theatre Design/Technology degree program is by Interview/Appointment and Portfolio Review on the dates below, plus on a rolling basis. If you are unable to schedule an interview on one the listed dates, please contact Professor Catherine Norgren directly at: norgren@buffalo.edu.

ON CAMPUS INTERVIEW DATES:

Saturday, October 24, 2026 @ 9am-2pm
Saturday, November 14, 2026 @ 9am-2pm
Saturday, March 6, 2027 @ 9am-2pm
(Location: University at Buffalo Center for the Arts, North Campus)

OFF CAMPUS INTERVIEW DATES:

Pittsburgh Unified Auditions: October 9-12, 2026 @ Pittsburgh, PA

UB Theatre and Dance New York City Auditions: Saturday, January 16, 2027 @ Pearl Studios, New York, NY

Western New York Unified Auditions: Date TBD

SETC Conference: March 3-6, 2027 @ Lexington, KY

Please complete the Registration Form below for an off-campus interview and portfolio review, except for the Western New York Unified Auditions*, for which you must register directly here.

Required Materials

  • Resume
  • Letter of Intent outlining your interest in Theatre Design/Production, as well as your specific interest to the University at Buffalo
  • Portfolio (Hard copy or digital) with samples of work that may include but are not limited to:
    • Production photos
    • Documentation of pieces designed or built for production
    • Designs from other disciplines (fashion, architecture, etc.)
    • Samples of drafting
    • Drawing/painting skills
    • Fine artwork 
    • Photography
    • Paperwork used to manage a project
    • Anything you feel is relevant to the study of theatre, design, technology, stage management, and collaborative work
  • Letters of Recommendation
    • Two letters are required, preferably discussing your work in Design and Technology
  • Interview with Design/Technology faculty
