Department of Music

Music Students playing instruments.

The Department of Music offers a stimulating environment in which students can develop their talents. Guided by world-renowned soloists, ensemble musicians, orchestral players, composers, music theorists and historical musicozlogists, our gifted students pursue their passion for creating, presenting and investigating music in a close-knit community of musicians and scholars.

Experiential Learning

Our department’s experiential learning opportunities provide students with the chance to deepen their understanding of the world beyond the classroom.

  • Flex your talents and create lasting memories by joining a UB performance group
  • Take applied music lessons with a faculty member
  • Perform and attend concerts in the beautiful, acoustically superb, 700 seat Lippes Concert Hall
  • Intern with a local organization to gain hands-on knowledge in behind-the-scenes technical work or the business of music

Career-Focused

Our students incorporate cultural, historical, theoretical and practical study as they explore their career choices. Many of our undergraduate students continue on to master's and doctoral degrees, while others have found success as soloists, composers, accompanists and private instructors. With additional training, students may pursue careers as conductors, music librarians or university professors.
