Micro-credential requirements

  • Eligibility: Open to all majors and UB students with a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. Students must complete MUS 301 before applying.
  • Credit Hours: 8–10 total
  • Average Time to Completion: Three semesters

Required courses (6 credits)

  • MUS 301 – Sound Recording and Production 1 (3 credits)
    Offered in Fall and Spring.
  • MUS 302 – Sound Recording and Production 2 (3 credits)
    Offered in Spring.

Elective course (2–4 credits)

Choose one of the following:

  • MUS 400 – Composition Seminar (4 credits)
  • MUS 407 – Composition (2 credits)
  • MUS 496 – Music Internship (2-4 credits)
  • MUS 499 – Independent Study in Sound Recording/Production (1-4 credits)

Final project

Your micro-credential experience ends with a project that showcases your skills. You’ll work with faculty to produce a professional-quality piece, such as:

  • A department recital recording
  • A podcast or local concert recording
  • A studio session or original composition
