Step 1: Apply to the University at Buffalo

Incoming freshman or undergraduate transfer applicants who are interested in pursuing a Social Sciences Interdisciplinary major must first apply and be accepted to the University at Buffalo

All relevant information, including admissions criteria; the online application; dates and deadlines; and standardized test score requirements, can be found by visiting UB Undergraduate Admissions.

Step 2: Apply to the Social Sciences Interdisciplinary Program

Apply to the Major

To be admitted to one of our majors, students must have a minimum UB GPA of 2.0 and have completed the following prerequisite courses for their intended concentration with a grade of C or better*:  

  • Cognitive Science: PSY 342* (B- required for this course)
  • Health and Human Services: PSY 101 and SSC 103
  • International Studies: HIS 142 and PSC 102 or PSC 103
  • Legal Studies: PSC 101 and HIS 161 or 162
  • Urban and Public Policy Studies: PSC 101 and SOC 101

Provisional Admission
Students may be provisionally admitted to the major if they meet the following criteria:

  • Have a UB GPA or overall GPA (UB and transfer averaged together) of 2.00 or higher
  • Have completed 60 or more credit hours

Please note: Students who have previously been admitted provisionally and dismissed from an SSCIDP major must wait to re-apply until all criteria for non-provisional admission have been met. 

How to Apply
To declare a SSCIDP major, please complete the Major Application Form. Submit the completed form and a UB Advisement Report to the program office in 203 Clemens Hall.
