MSW ‘26
Brendan Quigley's journey at UB began with a strategic decision to pursue the Health and Human Services (HHS) undergraduate major, drawn by the opportunity to participate in the accelerated five-year BA/MSW program. The interdisciplinary foundation of the HHS program proved instrumental in shaping Brendan's understanding of complex social issues. Through coursework in nonprofit leadership, human services administration and program evaluation, he developed a macro-level perspective on the challenges facing individuals and communities. This broad foundation equipped him with the analytical tools and systems thinking necessary for effective social work practice. Building on his foundational knowledge, Brendan cultivated specialized expertise in serving older adults—a rapidly growing and increasingly important area of social work practice. His academic preparation in this field led to an internship opportunity with the Alzheimer's Association of Western New York, where he gained hands-on experience working with individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's disease and dementia. As Brendan continues his MSW studies, he represents the kind of thoughtful, well-prepared social worker our communities need—someone who combines broad systems knowledge with specialized expertise and real-world experience serving vulnerable populations.
