Rebecca "Becki" Darszewski brings nearly three decades of connection to the University at Buffalo community, having first arrived as a student in 1997. She earned her bachelor's degree from UB's Social Science Interdisciplinary Degree Program with a concentration in Early Childhood Education, then continued her studies to complete her Master of Social Work at the university. Upon graduation, she was hired directly into her current role teaching in the Health and Human Services degree program.

Becki specializes in child and adolescent mental health, teaching multiple sections of core courses that prepare students for careers in human services

  • Child Mental Health – Explores the continuum of typical versus atypical childhood development while examining contemporary mental health challenges facing today's youth
  • Introduction to Play Therapy – Combines theoretical foundations with hands-on techniques, utilizing play therapy as an evidence-based treatment modality for children
  • Play in the 21st Century – Addresses cutting-edge issues affecting adolescents, challenging students to think critically about modern mental health concerns

As a Registered Play Therapist, Becki recognized the importance of demonstrating practical methods for working with children in clinical settings. Her courses uniquely blend academic rigor with experiential learning, giving students both conceptual knowledge and applied skills.

Beyond the classroom, Becki maintains a private child and family counseling practice in Hamburg, New York. This dual role as educator and practitioner ensures her teaching remains current with field developments and real-world applications.

Becki is dedicated to supporting students throughout their academic and professional journeys. She welcomes opportunities to meet with students individually to discuss career pathways, graduate school options, and continuing education opportunities in the field.
