Current Position

I currently work at Erie Niagara Area Health Education Center (AHEC) as the Program Manager. My primary responsibilities include grant and program management, which involves overseeing, developing, and implementing various programs focused on exposing students to health professions through interactive activities, community-based rotations, and providing continuing education trainings.

What do you like best about your current job?

I like many aspects of my job, but I think my favorite parts are working with high school students through our programs, as well as supervising interns. For both groups I get the chance to see them evolve as they learn new things, and I find that really rewarding.

How would you describe your career path after leaving UB?

After undergrad, I took a year off from school to gain some experience. I worked with students with developmental disabilities and emotional disturbance in school-based and residential settings before returning to UB for my Masters in Social Work. Throughout my MSW program and after graduation, I worked in child welfare until I moved on to a macro-based position with Erie Niagara AHEC. I started out as a trainer here, and over time took on more responsibilities, and was eventually promoted to Program Manager in early 2019.

Why did you choose to major in Health & Human Services?

I chose to major in Health and Human Services because it went along really well with a Psychology major, and the two programs complemented each other in a great way. I was able to take a more diverse array of classes that resulted in me attaining a more well-rounded education.

Were there any courses in Health & Human Services that you have found particularly useful in your current work?

All of the classes were quite useful to my current work. Skill Development in Human Services and Human Services Administration ended up being particularly relevant to my current work.

Is there anything that you wish you had known about your field when you were a student at UB?

I wish that I would have realized how important the business aspect of the work can be, not just for my current role, but also for understanding why organizations make certain decisions. Regardless of your role in a human service organization, having an understanding of the business aspect is very helpful.

What advice would you give to current students?

Every experience is valuable, and allows you to bring new perspectives and understanding into your work and personal life. Take advantage of internship opportunities and get involved with the community. Those experiences will give you skills that will help you in your future career.

What is one fun fact about you?

I am a foodie and love trying new restaurants, especially in Buffalo! I am the go-to person when my friends and coworkers need a recommendation.
