The Health and Human Services (HHS) major is built for students who want to make a difference in people’s lives as practitioners, advocates, administrators and change-makers. With a choice between three concentrations, students have a personalized path to gain the practical skills to address the real challenges facing individuals, families and communities.

Choose your concentration

Child and Family Studies

Examine how families and communities support healthy child development. Explore child welfare, family dynamics, early childhood systems and policy. Enter fields directly serving children and families.

Community Mental Health

Understand mental health through a community lens. Learn how social determinants shape wellbeing, explore evidence-based interventions and build the skills to support individuals and systems across the mental health continuum.

Social Gerontology

Study the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population. Explore the social, physical, and psychological dimensions of aging and prepare for a field with extraordinary career demand as the population ages.

Internships

All students in a Health and Human Sevices major can complete internships in agencies and organizations where they learn about the resources available to help individuals improve the quality of their lives and gain exposure to potential career paths and employment opportunities.
