Physics focuses on the investigation of natural phenomena, propelling many advancements in present-day science and technology. The mission of the Department of Physics is to provide undergraduate students with an outstanding educational foundation, consisting of comprehensive and rigorous coursework, laboratory training and hands-on research experience.

Experiential Learning

Our department’s experiential learning opportunities provide students with the chance to deepen their understanding of the world beyond the typical classroom setting.

  • Join a faculty member’s research initiative and study biological physics, condensed matter physics, high energy physics and cosmology or non-linear dynamics and statistical physics
  • Explore part-time employment during the academic year or full-time employment during the summer months in a department research lab

Career-Focused

Professional physicists typically pursue careers in teaching, research or some combination of the two. Teaching opportunities are available at the secondary, community college, or university level, where professors often engage in their own research projects.
