The BA in Media Study: Critical Studies Concentration at the University at Buffalo is for students who want to understand how media works and why it matters. Degree overview

The BA in Media Study: Critical Studies Concentration requires 38 to 40 credits in the major. 

Coursework includes: 

  • Introduction to interpretation courses that build foundational analytical skills 
  • Advanced analysis seminars at the 400 level 
  • Media and culture coursework examining media in social context 
  • Digital media theory and film or video media theory courses 
  • A production course to understand how media is created 
  • Electives at the 300 or 400 level 
  • A breadth course outside Media Study that explores media in another discipline
