BA in Media Study: Critical Studies

This concentration is ideal if you are curious about how media shapes identity, politics, technology and everyday experience.

By completing the Critical Studies concentration, you will: 

• Comprehend, explain and interpret media theory and media technologies 
• Apply media theory to the analysis of film, digital media, games and other forms

• Incorporate media theory and technology into thoughtful critiques and evaluations 
• Move beyond simple application to deeper interpretation and analysis

The BA in Media Study: Critical Studies Concentration requires 38 to 40 credits in the major. 

Coursework includes: 

• Introduction to interpretation courses that build foundational analytical skills 
• Advanced analysis seminars at the 400 level 
• Media and culture coursework examining media in social context 
• Digital media theory and film or video media theory courses 
• A production course to understand how media is created 
• Electives at the 300 or 400 level 
• A breadth course outside Media Study that explores media in another discipline
