Media Study students have access to departmental awards, college scholarships and university-wide funding opportunities. Some awards recognize creative achievement. Others support academic excellence or financial need.
Each spring, the Department of Media Study recognizes students for outstanding achievement in film, video, digital arts, media scholarship and service to the university and community.
Award announcements and application details are emailed to students late in the spring semester. Recipients are recognized at the annual student show during exam week.

This award was established in Memory of Gregory Capasso a student in the Department of Media Study. Gregory loved films, writing and most of all life and making people laugh. After spending a semester studying in England, he was returning home on December 21, 1988 with 258 other passengers on PanAm Flight 103 when a terrorist bomb caused it to explode over Lockerbie, Scotland killing everyone on board. Gregory was taken from his family, friends, loved ones and this university community. He will live on in the hearts, minds and souls of all who loved him. This award is made possible by the Gregory Capasso Endowment fund established by his family and friends.

The Pierre McAloon Memorial Award was established by the family and friends of DMS student Pierre McAloon. Pierre died shortly after the completion of his documentary film “Corridor.” This memorial award recognizes Media Study film students who demonstrate talent and vision through their Art.
Presented for academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.
This award was established by the Levy King and White Companies, Inc. and is awarded to students in recognition of their outstanding academic and excellent work in Media Study.
