Incoming freshman or undergraduate transfer applicants who are interested in pursuing economics study must first apply and be accepted to the University at Buffalo. All relevant information, including admissions criteria, the online application, dates and deadlines, and standardized test score requirements, can be found by visiting UB Undergraduate Admissions.
Any student considering a Major, Joint Major or Minor in Economics should speak with the undergraduate adviser to obtain up-to-date information about requirements.
To be admitted into the Economics Major or Minor, students must complete at least 30 university credits, have an overall GPA of 2.0 or more, have passed MTH 121, MTH 131 or MTH 141, and have taken at least two economics courses with at least a 2.0 average in those two courses.
Every UB economics major must pass at least fifteen upper level (i.e. 300 level or higher) economics elective credits, at UB. Transfer credits may be given towards the following courses:
Students who wish to obtain transfer credits for courses taken at another university or college must apply through UB’s TAURUS system. You must provide an informative course description or syllabus for each course and make an articulation request at Capen 1.

Download the Major/Minor Application and bring the completed form, along with a current Academic Advisement report, directly to the department office (415 Fronczak Hall) or leave the forms in the dropbox outside the UGA office (435 Fronczak Hall).
Please note: Students applying for a joint major must also apply to and be accepted by the other department.
