Under the guidance of UB’s Grammy-winning jazz faculty, students engage in performance initiatives that enhance their skills and build connections. With free access to concerts and masterclasses featuring world-renowned visiting artists, you’ll immerse yourself in the vibrant world of jazz.

- Flexible Pathways: Courses in this minor align with BA in Music and MusB in Music Performance programs, making transitions seamless if you decide to change your focus.
- Unique Structure: Students cannot pursue both a major and minor in music simultaneously, allowing for a concentrated experience in your chosen track.
To complete the Jazz Performance Minor, students must earn 19 credit hours with a grade of C or higher in all coursework.
Year 1
- Music Theory: Music Theory, Analysis, and Aural Skills I (4 credits)
- Music History: History of Jazz or MUS 214 - Music History Survey I (3 credits)
- Ensemble: Two semesters of Jazz Ensemble or Jazz Combo (4 credits)
Year 2
- Ensemble: Two additional semesters of Jazz Ensemble or Jazz Combo (4 credits)
- Applied Lessons: Two semesters of 400-level lessons on your primary instrument or voice (4 credits)
