The Music Performance Minor is designed for students passionate about music who want to enhance their academic journey with a focus on both practical and theoretical aspects of the art. This program strikes the perfect balance between academic rigor and hands-on experience, making it an excellent complement to any primary field of study.

This program provides the opportunity to strengthen foundational skills in music theory and history while taking applied music lessons with our distinguished performance faculty and participating in Department of Music ensembles.

Course requirements

The Music Performance Minor requires 19 credit hours. Students must earn a C or higher in all music coursework.

Core courses

  • Theory: Music Theory, Analysis, and Aural Skills I (4 credits)
  • History: Music History Survey I or II (3 credits)

Performance requirements

  • Applied Lessons: Two semesters of 2-credit lessons (4 credits)
  • Ensembles: Four semesters of 2-credit ensembles (8 credits)
