  • Performance Opportunities: Gain hands-on experience by participating in two Department of Music ensembles of your choice.

All General Music Minors are required to participate in two Department of Music ensembles of their choice, ensuring hands-on performance experience.

Course requirements

The General Music Minor requires 20 credit hours. Students must earn a C or higher in all music coursework.

Core courses

  • Theory: Music Theory, Analysis, and Aural Skills I (4 credits)
  • History: Music History Survey I or II (3 credits)

Three courses from the following (9 credits):

  • Introduction to Electronic Music I
  • Introduction to Electronic Music II
  • Women and Music
  • Orpheus: The Meaning of Music
  • World Music
  • Rock Music
  • Arts One
  • Composition Seminar
  • Music, Comedy and Modernism
  • Seminar in American Music

Performance requirements

  • Two semesters of a 2-credit ensemble or lessons (4 credits)
  • Applied music lessons require an audition.

General Music Minors are eligible for applied music lessons, but must first audition.
