Mame Salim is a senior majoring in Italian. This past summer she chose to embark on two exciting study abroad adventures, one with VoluntarItaly in Solero, the other at Lorenzo de' Medici Italian International Institute in Tuscania. Here's what she had to say about her experiences:
My name is Mame Salim. I volunteered to teach English at a summer camp in Solaro this past June 2018 with VoluntarItaly. I had a wonderful experience. I bonded with all the kids, animatori (Italian volunteers), locals, and the other American volunteers as well. Don Nicola was exceptionally helpful throughout my entire experience. He always went the extra mile to make sure I was happy and comfortable with everything we were doing.
I also had a wonderful host family; Annalisa, Silverio, and Matteo were amazing people. They made me feel welcome in their home and helped me learn more about the Italian language and culture.
Overall, I'm grateful to have participated in this program. Although it was stressful at times, I enjoyed every minute of it. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who loves working with kids from different cultures/backgrounds and anyone who wants to learn more about the day-to-day life of Italians.
