Project: From Minimalism onward
Construct a sculpture incorporating a specific list of techniques.
Using the provided sheet of plywood make a sculpture that incorporates your knowledge of the wood shop. The object should deal in some way with the idea of containment. This should include a creation that is being contained: which will include an exploration into symbolism. The contained creation can be any material. A thorough introduction to the safe practice and procedures in the wood shop will be given through discussion and demonstrations over several classes. Tools to be covered include various saws (hand saws, mitre/chop saw, bandsaw, skill/circular saw, jigsaw, table saw, drill press, hand drill/screw gun, router, circular sander/belt sander, clamps, vices.
Before you begin your project you will be required to plan and draw planned ideas in order to conserve materials and minimize error. Creating small models of intended work is advised. Also due is a short 500 word paper on Minimalism.
