Undergraduate Student Support Team

Team Description

The undergraduate student support team will support the following goals:

  • Improve the student experience and retention, by assisting them across related majors and not within the context of just one.
  • Provide services the way students want to receive them and not how we have traditionally delivered them by leveraging technology and communication strategies.
  • Improve consistency of messaging through tactical coordination with CAS Advising Services and 1Capen.
  • Assist students with interpreting the rules, regulations, and procedures of the assigned department(s).

Serve as a primary professional administrative contact for undergraduate students in their assigned sector and academic programs. Members of the undergraduate student services teams assist in the day-to-day and programmatic undergraduate teaching mission in their assigned sector and academic programs.

  • Serve as the point of contact for undergraduate students who have questions or need assistance/referrals. Function as the in-house liaison among the DUS, Undergraduate Affairs Committee, faculty, current/prospective students and relevant University offices.
  • Provide professional administrative support to the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Department Chair and Department Administrator, in all aspects of student progression. This includes force registration, minor changes, updating AAR reports for course exceptions and facilitating the process for AAR updates when there are changes to degree requirements degree audits and facilitating transfer articulation requests.
  • Develop, manage and support outreach efforts for the department. Forward student inquiries to the DUS when appropriate.
  • Serve as the brand ambassador for the department by strengthening collaborative relationships with students, faculty and alumni as well as other internal and external constituents.
  • Meet with students to have the initial conversation regarding departmental opportunities (internships, research/experiential learning opportunities, etc.).
  • Compile and maintain current and prospective undergraduate student files in consultation with student advisors. Initiate spreadsheets and databases for student grades, honors records and reports.
  • Assist with department events including Undergraduate Admissions sponsored open house, accepted student’s day events, departmental honors symposium, undergraduate convocation ceremony and awards ceremony (may include processing awards and notifying students).
  • Assist in preparing annual reports, self-studies and external reviews for the department.
